  • At your service:
NIE is supported by many different departments at the Victoria Advocate: Customer Service, Circulation, Marketing, and News. Our staff is dedicated to serving you from the time you order your first newspapers until you’ve finished the lesson. We are committed to making your NIE experience A+.

    Textbooks printed daily:
NIE is a co-operative effort between schools and newspapers to promote the use of newspapers as an educational resource. We like to think of the Victoria Advocate as a textbook printed daily.

    A powerful program:
The Victoria Advocate, with the support of national organizations such as the Newspaper Association of America (NAA), Texas NIE, and other affiliated groups, is dedicated to providing a powerful program designed to enhance existing curriculum and promote student achievement.

    A suite of materials:
The Victoria Advocate’s NIE program includes a suite of materials that will help you incorporate newspapers into existing curriculum. In addition to the newspaper, we’ll provide lesson plans and curriculum guides. These tools facilitate teaching in all curricular areas.

    Live and online:
Our NIE program is going live and online soon, offering you quick access to the program. The site will incorporate national resources and five major content modules that are updated regularly:

    - Cartoons for the Classroom

    - Geography in the News Quiz

    - Lesson plans categorized by grade level

    - Newspapers Plus, an essay with correlating activities that tie in the use of the newspaper

    - This Week in History.

    Five business days:
It’s easy. Complete the NIE order form, and the Victoria Advocate will be delivered to your school five business days after we’ve received the order. You may order papers delivered any or every day of the week.

    No cost to you:
We are so committed to the successful use of this program, we will provide newspapers at no charge to you for use in your classroom during the 2006-2007 school year. Your newspapers are paid for by corporate and individual partners who share our passion for using newspapers to enhance learning.

    We Deliver:
The Victoria Advocate will be delivered directly to your school at a drop-off location determined. Each order will be individually bundled and labeled for your use only. You determine the best means for getting the newspapers from the delivery location to your classroom. Perhaps one of your students would like to be a newspaper carrier in training and would like this responsibility.

    Positive Results:
In cooperation with the Newspaper Association of America (NAA), a study was conducted to measure the success of NIE programs across America. It reported a 10% increase in student performance on standardized testing. If you would like further proof of the effectiveness of NIE, download this study, entitled Measuring Success, from the NAA website: http://www.naafoundation.org/.

    A fun way to learn:
In addition to performance benefits for students, you will discover that having a textbook printed daily provides fun, new material that can be used to teach existing curriculum.
